About Younergy Solar PPAs
What is a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)?
A solar power purchase agreement (PPA) is an agreement to sell energy between Younergy and an energy customer. Younergy arranges for the design, permitting, financing and installation of a solar energy system on the customer’s property and the customers buy the energy the system produces.
What’s the price per kWh?
Younergy sells the electricity generated at a rate per kWh that is typically lower than the local utility’s retail rate. This lower electricity price serves to offset the customer’s purchase of electricity from the grid while Younergy receives the income from these sales of electricity as well as other incentives generated from the system. The PPA rates are customer-specific and depend among other variables on the estimated energy production of your roof based on irradiance and orientation, system size and installation cost.
What’s the contract duration?
PPAs typically range from 10 to 25 years and Younergy remains responsible for the operation and maintenance of the system for the duration of the agreement. At the end of the PPA contract term, a customer may be able to extend the PPA, have Younergy remove the system or choose to buy the solar energy system from Younergy.
Will I pay for what I consume or for what the system produces?
This will depend on the contract type we will offer you. In some cases, we sell all of the energy produced by the system to the end customer. The energy surplus sold to the grid is in those cases a revenue stream of the energy customers In other cases when we have a good idea of the company’s load profile we sell to the end-user only the solar energy that is consumed directly from the system. In those cases, the energy surplus sold to the grid is a revenue stream of Younergy.
About the benefits
Is there any investment cost?
No. Younergy covers the initial costs of sizing, acquiring and installing the solar photovoltaic system. Without any initial investment, the energy customer is able to adopt solar energy and start saving electricity bill costs as soon as the system becomes operational.
What’s the impact on my business electricity bill?
We work to provide our customers with tangible electricity bill savings. The quantification of the savings is done on a case-by-case basis as it depends on specific variables. Among others, the savings will depend on the estimated energy production potential of your roof (based on irradiance and orientation), on the solar system size, on the estimated total installation cost and also on your consumption profile and local electricity rates.
What are the risks?
Younergy de-risks the going solar process. Younergy operates the system and is responsible for all the necessary preventive and corrective maintenance works. Since our financial success depends on the correct functioning of our systems, we have a strong incentive to ensure the equipment is working at all times. As a customer, our solutions help you benefit from the solar system with virtually no financing or operational risks.
Will my business become more sustainable?
Yes. Consuming renewable electricity from a solar system on your company’s property is a visible and powerful statement for a sustainable future. Depending on your country’s electricity mix our systems save on average 500 g of C02 for every kWh that is produced and consumed locally.
Can I also monitor my consumption?
Yes, helping our customers manage their overall energy spending is one of the things we care most about. Younergy helps you reduce your business’s electricity consumption. We typically integrate the Younergy consumption monitoring solution in all our solar projects to help you visualize and control your energy spending.
What type of customers and projects is Younergy looking for?
Younergy focuses on the installation of projects from 30 kWp to 2 MWp. Rooftops must be in good condition and able to withstand the length of the PPA contract without major maintenance or reparations. The energy customer should be the owner of the building where the system will be installed. In general, we favor customers that can consume most of the energy the system produces.
How do the billing and payments work?
Typically, we bill our customers on a monthly basis and payments are due 30 days from invoicing.
Will I still receive a bill from my electricity provider?
Yes, but the amount of your invoice will be lower than before. From the moment the system starts producing, you will pay for the regular electricity consumption minus the electricity consumed from the solar system. Additionally and depending on the contract type you will be remunerated by the local utility or grid network operator for the solar electricity injected when your building does not fully consume the solar electricity production.
